Design

The HP Pavilion 15-cb071nr laptop comes with a clean design. It has a matte finish on the top and bottom which is a very nice area to touch. On opening the laptop, you get a metal-like finish on where you rest your hands. The keyboard is good with decent travel. If you type a lot, this keyboard should serve you well. The trackpad is not the best but will surely get things done for you.

The vents for hot air to go out can be found on the bottom. Though the placement is not that great, it does work as advertised. If you are looking for a laptop with a 15-inch screen, then the size is not too big. The weight of the laptop is also not that heavy so you can take this with you wherever you want to. Overall, a very good looking laptop from the house of HP.

HP Pavilion 15-cb071nr Specs

HP Pavilion 15-cb071nr laptopThe display in the HP Pavilion 15-cb071nr laptop is a 15.6-inch diagonal full HD display. It comes with a standard resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. This is also an anti-glare display which means you will get very minimum reflections even in a brightly lit environment.

You also get good viewing angles (178 degrees) with the screen. So the next you group watch a movie together with your friends, you can be relaxed and positioned at any angle from the screen.

The audio output from the laptop is decent. It is not going to satisfy you if you are an audiophile. But if you are ok with laptop sounds, then this one will knock it out of the park.

The processor that powers the laptop is an Intel Core i7 chip. The quad-core i7 7700hq processor is a high-end chip that comes with a lot of brute processing power. It typically clocks at 2.8GHz but can flex its muscles and go on up to 3.8GHz when necessary.

With the 12 gigs of DDR4 RAM in memory, you can do quite a bit of multitasking. You can run multiple apps at the same time, perform downloads while working on office stuff, and much more. The CPU and RAM make this machine a truly usable midrange workstation.

The hard drive comes with 1TB of space with speed of 7200rpm. This is not the fastest drive out there. HP should have included a solid state drive but haven’t. Because we only have a mechanical drive in place, the speed gets affected a bit. The loading times of applications and the bootup time are not as fast as they should be in 2017. This may not be a big issue to a lot of people, but it is there.

Windows 10 is the operating system and it comes installed on the hard drive. Easily one of the best Windows OSs out there and it gives such a nice buttery experience on this laptop.

Graphics, Connectivity & Battery Life…

Let’s talk about the graphics card in the HP Pavilion 15-cb071nr. We have an AMD Radeon RX 550 as the graphics card. This is a mid-range graphics card that is based on the polaris 12 chip. It comes with 2GB DDR5 memory and 8 gigs of total graphics memory.

This graphics card is one of the best mid-range ones on the market. It allows you to play a lot of high-end games which is a very good thing. Games like Doom, Thief, FIFA 17, and other many other titles run fine at high settings without any problems.

You have a lot of options when it comes to connectivity and the ports on this machine. You get an ethernet port, an HDMI port, a USB type C port, a USB 3.1 type A port, and also a media card reader. On the left-hand side, you get the headphone jack and another USB 3.1 gen 1 port.

You can connect to the internet wirelessly, thanks to the 802.11ac wireless connectivity built in. There is also Bluetooth connectivity which can help you to connect external devices like printers to your laptop.

The battery life in this machine is impressive. HP promises around 10 hours of battery life with light usage and around 9 hours with video playback. We found this to be partially true. You should get around 7 to 8 hours of battery life with light usage. With some heavy work, you should still be able to squeeze out 5 to 6 hours which is super impressive.
